NOWHERE BOY

On Sept. 21 was the New York premier of the movie NOWHERE BOY by one of my favorite artists Sam Taylor-Wood. It is a chronicle about John Lennon’s challenging childhood and adolescence, the creation of his first band, The Quarrymen, and its evolution into The Beatles.
A great movie.

The room at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center was packed with NY legends. People were emotional even before the movie started.
After speeches by Harvey Weinstein, Sam Taylor Woods, the introduction of the cast (including my favorite Kirsten Scott Thomas) the surprise guest of the night, Yoko Ono took the stage.
Her speech was very heartfelt – she loved the movie – and talked about John and the person he became surviving the drama of his early years.
It felt like a part of NY history was happening.

After the movie Paul McCartney introduced the Quarrymen!
Yes, the Quarryman are still around.  Three of them are left.
It was amazing to see these 70 year old men, which we just saw as teenagers on the screen, performing the songs from the movie.
They sounded fantastic and had the time of their life on stage.

Go and see the movie – it is worth it!

The movie will be released in theaters in the States on October 9th, the day John Lennon would have turned 70 years old.
It will premier in Germany on October 2nd at the Hamburg Film Festival.
