philosopher + visual artist + photographer

He set off through New Topographic movement in the late ’70ties, with his counter-aesthetic of photography, searching for true beauty in desolation and destruction.

I came a cross Lewis Baltz through a conversation yesterday with a friend who has followed his work ever since the beginning, and since then his visual state of work has been on my mind.

A full box set, only printed in very limited editions, showing the absolute best imagery throughis out his more than 30 year carrer is out now.

EtagE MasterPieces

Spent the day in Berlin today – making sure that most meetings took place at my favourite places in town, Cafe Oliv in Münzstrasse, Soho House in Torstrasse and of course at Andreas Murkudis retail emperium in the very mitte of Mitte.

At the Etage, there is a new exhibition launched only a little more that a week ago – and continuing until the end of october. They are offering a German exclusive on the Mangiarotti collection by Agapecasa, showing the new editions of developments going all the way back to the 1950′ies.

Angelo Mangiarotti, one of the leading exponents of 20th-century Italian design, a committed, cultured and brilliant designer, who took on the ideals of the Modern Movement and actually exceeded them through his experimental and highly original work.

The exhibition is a catalogue of precious jewels chosen from the repertoire of a designer who has handed down dozens of excellent projects to the history of design, along with some authentic masterpieces.

Dressing Up

‘Luis energy really reminds of the energy we had when we started Acne. He seems to be this endless well of ideas and creativity.

It is something that instantly attracted me to him. We share an openness to new ideas and expressions, so to work with him felt natural from the start. I’m in this business to have fun and to enjoy myself, and I feel that Luis is too. This collection is a playful collaboration and a celebration of diversity. It touches on ideas I have always played with when designing for Acne, the tension between male and female and what happens when you shift things around a bit

Together with Acne Studios, Luis Venegas Editor in Chief of Candy Magazine has created a collection of three shirts. Working on the idea of a classic western shirt, but playing with detail and proportion, the end result is a fun take on masculine versus feminine. All styles are all offered in silk crepe and Italian denim; the later in two washes, stonewashed and

bleached. The shirts are named after one of Luis favourite TV series, Dynasty. The shirt with a dramatic bow at the neck is called “Alexis” as a tribute to Joan Collin’s role. The one with big sleeves reminded Luis of the role Linda Evans played so it’s called “Krystle” and the shirt with ruffles at neck and wrists has the playful personality of Heather’s Locklear role and is called “Sammy Jo.”

I tried to make people feel like “Is this for men or for women?”… Well, is for all the many types of men and women worldwide on 21st Century. Or even simpler, the idea was creating something like tranny shirts for everybody. Something relevant and open-mined.’

the TRANSVESTITE, TRANSGENDER AND CROSS-DRESSING collection will be launched during Womens Fashion Week in Paris in October this year.
